About Bachata Dance

Bachata was born in the Dominican Republic, where its heartfelt guitar rhythms and romantic lyrics told stories of love, longing, and connection. As the dance spread around the world, artists began to blend Bachata rhythms with pop and R&B sounds, creating a modern, “urban” take on Bachata that fused turn patterns and body movements from other dance styles.

In the late 2000s, Bachata found a second home in Spain, where dance artists Korke and Judith began integrating fluid body movements and lyrical musical interpretation into the dance. They structured and formalized their dance style, calling it Sensual Bachata and giving way to the worldwide phenomenon danced around the globe today.

As Bachata music and dance continue to spread around the world, influences from other styles like Zouk, Heels, Lyrical, and Ballroom are continuing to shape its evolution and define the ever-evolving art form. Yet even as it evolves, the heart of Bachata dance, like other social dances including Salsa, Swing, and Tango, remains about connection: With your partner, the music, and yourself.

Join Brielle Friedman and Motivto Dance LA to begin your dance journey into Bachata, a style celebrated and danced across the globe in all its forms — traditional, urban, and sensual — uniting people through music, movement, and the joy of shared rhythm.
