Discover the smooth, flowing style of Brazilian Zouk! Known for its dynamic movements, body isolations, and seamless partner connection, Zouk is a captivating and expressive partner dance. The dance has roots in Brazil and the Caribbean but has evolved to include several dance and musical styles from all over the world.
The dance was made internationally famous by the hit movie Saturday Night Fever, and became a viral dance craze that helped bring social partner dancing back into popular culture.
Today, it is danced around the world to modern club music with Disco, Hip Hop, House & R&B sounds.
In this 8-week beginner-friendly class, you’ll learn the foundational steps and techniques that make Zouk feel like floating amongst the clouds. No partner or experience needed—just come ready to move and have fun!
Shoes you can turn in (not sticky) or flat dance shoes are recommended.
Level 1 curriculum will include basic steps, social dance etiquette, connection techniques, and an introduction to the signatory "head movements". Everything to get you on the social dance floor.
Level 2 "Zouk Corps" curriculum dives deeper into the details to get at the essence of the movements. Pre-requisites: frente e trás, lateral, quarter turn, viradinha, elástico, gostosinho, simple turn, soltinho, abertura, boomerang, balão. Instructor approval is required before attendance.
