The Daniel Rotem Quartet
The Daniel Rotem Quartet brings together four musicians who have been playing, recording, and touring alongside one another in different settings for more than a decade. That shared history is at the core of the band’s sound. Featuring pianist Miro Sprague, bassist Karl McComas-Reichl, and drummer Christian Euman, the group approaches the jazz quartet tradition as an open conversation—one shaped by trust, deep listening, and a willingness to follow the music wherever it leads.
The band was formed as a cooperative project, with each member contributing to the direction and character of the music. Performances center around Rotem’s original compositions alongside inventive arrangements, which serve as starting points for exploration. Within those frameworks, the quartet plays with form, texture, tempo, and orchestration, allowing the music to evolve organically from moment to moment.
While deeply connected to the jazz tradition, the group approaches each performance with curiosity and openness. The music moves between lyricism and risk-taking, honoring the spirit of the masters while continuing to look for new possibilities within the quartet format.
Individually, the members have performed with artists including Herbie Hancock, Billy Childs, Larry Goldings, Steve Lehman, Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, Jacob Collier, Luciana Souza, Karrin Allyson, Matt Wilson, Jane Monheit, Jeff Parker, Greg Osby, Lionel Loueke, Mark Turner, Ingrid Jensen, and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. Together, they create performances that unfold spontaneously, shaped by conversation, curiosity, and the belief that great music begins with listening.
The Creative Music series at Motivo LA focuses on artists who value listening as a fundamental part of their creative process, presenting music that transcends the boundaries of genre. Utilizing the warm and intimate space, artists and audience come together, building a community that is founded on artistic substance, sincere connection, and meaningful creation.
With the audience encircling the artists in the center of the space, the series is open to all ages.
