About Anthony Wilson
Anthony Wilson is a Los Angeles–based guitarist, composer, and arranger whose work moves fluidly across jazz, Brazilian music, orchestral composition, singer-songwriter traditions, and contemporary improvisation. The son of legendary jazz trumpeter and bandleader Gerald Wilson, Anthony grew up immersed in a rich musical lineage that continues to shape his compositional voice, instrumental palette, and expansive artistic perspective.
Since the release of his Grammy-nominated debut album Anthony Wilson in 1997, Wilson has built a deeply respected and wide-ranging discography as both a bandleader and collaborator. His recordings span from large ensemble jazz and Hammond organ trios to intimate songwriter-driven projects and genre-crossing works that blend photography, film, and narrative composition. Albums such as Power of Nine, Savivity, Frogtown, and Songs and Photographs reveal a constantly evolving artist equally interested in melodic storytelling, harmonic exploration, and sonic atmosphere.
An inventive soloist and highly sought-after accompanist, Wilson has been a core member of Diana Krall’s quartet since 2001, appearing on the Grammy-winning recording and concert film Live in Paris. Over the years, he has performed and recorded with an extraordinary range of artists including Charles Lloyd, Ron Carter, Bobby Hutcherson, Mose Allison, Joe Sample, Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, Barbra Streisand, and Al Jarreau.
Beyond his work as a performer, Wilson is also an acclaimed composer and recipient of the Thelonious Monk Institute International Composers’ Award. His commissions include works for Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, the Henry Mancini Institute, and the Jazz Coalition Commission Fund. In 2018, he was selected as a MacDowell Fellow.
